Mekong Strategic Capital presents an explanation of why Cambodia's GDP has recently been rebased by around 35% to US$41.9b and what this means for the economy.
The IMF’s World Economic Outlook, published in April 2024, disclosed the newly rebased figures for Cambodia’s GDP, which show the economy is just over 35% larger than previous GDP calculations had indicated.
This rebasing is the result of a well overdue but rigorous process by the National Institute of Statistics (NIS), that has been reviewed by the likes of the IMF, to estimate the size of the Cambodian economy more accurately.
